Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Critical Care and Surgery (Maternity Cover)

Full Time (1.0 WTE) – one year

We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated pharmacist to join our team. As a key member of the Critical Care and Surgery team you will work directly alongside a dynamic team of Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provision and oversight of the clinical pharmacy service to Critical Care and the High Dependency Unit
  • Support to the team of pharmacists and medicines management technicians providing pharmacy services to the Family Services and Surgery Division
  • Working as an independent prescriber
  • Leading medicines optimisation for Critical Care including financial reporting, formulary management, horizon scanning and implementation of national guidance
  • Review of incident reports and DATIX to improve processes and practice to ensure safer medicines use
  • Ensuring clinical supervision and training for Foundation Pharmacists and the wider pharmacy team
  • Contributing to the training and development of medical, nursing and allied healthcare professionals

You will be a non-medical independent prescriber or working towards this qualification.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering clinical pharmacy services to a range of specialties including patients in Level 2/3 beds. You will be committed to a high standard of medicines management and demonstrate excellent communication and mentoring skills. The role requires strong prioritisation and time management skills to enable you to work efficiently and effectively as part of the wider healthcare team. You will demonstrate the highest level of commitment to patient safety and be committed to delivering outstanding medicines management.

The clinical pharmacy team comprises clinical pharmacists, medicines management technicians and trainees. You will be a highly valued member of the Critical Care and Pharmacy teams, a role model and mentor for foundation pharmacists. Our Senior Pharmacists have experience and practice depth having worked across different practice sectors and in leading teaching hospitals UK wide.

The post includes weekend working, a weekly late duty and participation in the weekend and bank holiday rota.
