Job overview

The doctor will be based in the 10 Hammersmith Broadway for sexual health, where they will see both sexual health patients, as well as patients attending for contraception.  Training and shadowing opportunities will be provided prior to doctors seeing patients independently and senior / consultant support will be fully available at all times.

The post-holder will be responsible for investigating, diagnosing and treating sexually transmitted infections and all aspects of sexual and reproductive health within the main GUM clinic. They will be expected to be involved in specialist GU clinics and assist in the development of new clinical services. In addition, the post-holder will also be responsible for checking and acting on laboratory results and discussion of these results with senior medical staff as required/appropriate. They would also have the opportunity to develop their own skills and interests with the support of a dedicated clinical supervisor.

The post-holder will be required to build on existing close relations with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will be encouraged to participate in audit, research and teach medical students attached to the team.  There is a strong focus on service development and improvement within the department, and the post holder would be highly encouraged to develop and support similar service improvement projects

Main duties of the job

The Doctor will work within the outpatient Sexual health and HIV teams at 10 Hammersmith Broadway.

They will be under the supervision of seniors, participating in busy sexual health clinics, specialist sexual health services, and HIV clinics.

The post-holder will be responsible for investigating, diagnosing and treating sexually transmitted infections and all aspects of sexual and reproductive health within the main GUM clinic. They will be expected to be involved in specialist GU clinics and assist in the development of new clinical services.

In addition they will also be responsible for checking and acting on laboratory results and discussion of these results with senior medical staff as required/appropriate.

The post-holder will be responsible for arranging appropriate onward internal and external patient referrals and correspondence with General Practitioners as relevant. The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to non-clinical duties e.g. clinic rota co-ordination and managerial responsibilities as delegated. The doctor shall contribute to the development of the multidisciplinary team by offering support, education and teaching/training where required.

Child and adult safeguarding is a priority within the directorate, and the post holders will be expected to attend appropriate training, and be able to identify cases and refer them to appropriate services.

Clinical

Assessment and treatment of patients according to the Department’s guidelines and protocols.

Research/Audit

Staffs are encouraged to involve themselves in Directorate and unit research/audit-this will be discussed during clinical supervision.

Administrative

Assist Medical Staff in diagnosing, coding and review of positive results. The post holder will be responsible for the follow up of the results of tests they have performed and further management.

Teaching

The post holder will be expected to participate in the teaching of medical students from Imperial College attending our services and other members of the clinic team. They will be expected to teach on the Directorate’s clinical teaching programme and if interested, deliver teaching in the community to allied professionals and voluntary agencies linked to the trust.
