Job overview

There is an opportunity to become part of a progressive clinical Pharmacy team, providing the professional, technical and logistical components of an Integrated Medicine Management Service at South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust. This Post will be cross-cover if and when needed.

We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join the IMM team. Working outside the dispensary with dedicated Pharmacists at ward level you will provide a patient-focussed service which includes the assessment of patients own drugs, determining and maintaining supplies of medicines to be stored at the patients bedside to ensure a safe and timely discharge service from the hospital. The role will also involve counselling of patients on their medicines to deliver medicines optimisation and completing medicines reconciliation.

There will also be an opportunity to have a role within the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Service which will involve working closely with Trust research teams to set-up and deliver clinical trials across the organisation.

Applications will be considered from students, however any offer of employment would be subject to attaining Registration with the GPhC prior to any / the Conditional offer of employment being confirmed.

Main duties of the job

You will have experience working in a hospital or primary care setting. You must possess NVQ Pharmacy Level 3 with BTEC or equivalent underpinning knowledge. You will be Appointed to a Band 4 Post until you have met the full criteria to progress to the Band 5 IMM Pharmacy Technician role.

This will include a minimum of two cycles of CPD revalidation as a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Society.

Completed accredited accuracy checking and the following Medicines Management Frameworks

Module 1- Assessment of patients own drugs

Module 2- Ordering medication for one-stop dispensing

Module 3 - Medicines Reconciliation.

After meeting the full requirements of the Band 5 role, including the above, you will progress into a Band 5 Post.

This Post has a requirement for seven-day working including weekends, late nights, bank holidays and cross-site cover.

You must be adaptable, have good communication skills and possess the ability to work on your own initiative to deliver patient care within the wider multidisciplinary team. We are looking for an individual who is flexible in their approach to work.
