Job overview

To provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service within the Women & Children’s Directorate ensuring high quality, safe, effective, legal and accurate use of medicines within the specialty.

The Senior Pharmacist will lead on the provision of parenteral nutrition for paediatrics and neonates.

They  maintain a regular clinical commitment to both women and paediatric wards and will provide information support for division and specialist pharmacists and will deputise for the Lead Directorate Pharmacist when required.

The post holder will provide and manage pharmaceutical services to the Women & Children Directorate in accordance with the needs of the Division. Along with working with senior clinicians on determining medicines related cost pressures for the Women & Children Directorate. The post holder will also monitor and review prescribing practice within the Women & Children Directorate and to work with clinicians to ensure effective, safe, evidence based and cost effective prescribing.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Pharmacist will lead on the provision of general paediatrics and the education and training of the internal team along with supporting the provision of parenteral nutrition for paediatrics and neonates.

Supervises:

  • Specialist Pharmacists W&C
  • Rotational resident pharmacists
  • Pre-registration pharmacists and other junior staff

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Participate in other areas of clinical pharmacy practice in order to ensure a broad base of pharmaceutical knowledge
  • To participate in weekend/public holiday and on-call rotas.
  • To assist the Department in the production of ward and on-call rotas.
  • To participate in the operational management rota.
  • Liaise with other clinical pharmacists to ensure efficient transfer of drug related care
  • Be aware of, and apply, relevant legislation such as the H & SAWA, COSHH, Medicines Act, GMP etc.
  • At all times practice in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the General Pharmaceutical Council
