Our Volunteer Hearing Champions are trained to work in partnership with clinical staff and other volunteers, to provide hearing support to adults with hearing loss in non-clinical community settings. The aim of the role is to help improve communication/participation and reduce any social isolation that adults with hearing loss may experience

As a result, you will play an integral role in providing information, support, and reassurance. This involves tasks such as advising on how to communicate more effectively and performing basic NHS hearing aid servicing and maintenance.

There is the opportunity for interested individuals to fulfil the role as part of the ‘Hear Here’ project. This is a Diocesan response to meet the needs of hearing-impaired individuals in church communities. For such volunteers the Sensory Inclusion Advisor from the Diocesan Communities Engagement Team provides support and training/ governance is delivered by the Audiology team. The Hearing Champions offer hearing aid maintenance as a church activity following approval by the Parish Community Council (PCC) and as a non-medical clinical activity following approval by Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
