Moorfields Eye Hospital invites applications for the post of Health Care Assistant based at Northwick Park Satellite Eye Clinic.
The post-holder will be responsible supporting the clinical team in providing quality care to our patients who present with a wide variety of ophthalmic conditions and maintaining a safe, clean environment.
To support qualified nursing staff, senior technician and HCA team in providing high quality individualised Ophthalmic care to a defined group of service users, relatives and carers. To ensure the safety and well-being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles. Experience is desired but not necessary as full training for role will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment
- To exercise an agreed degree of professional autonomy and make judgements and decisions in order to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job.
- To work alongside all staff in areas of the patient pathway, ophthalmic outpatient pathway, nurse led clinics, technician led clinics, procedural rooms and other ophthalmic clinic areas including Out Patient and Day care unit.
- To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff.
- To develop understanding and knowledge of reviewing patient referral letters from GP and Opticians so appropriate investigations are undertaken.
- To liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, aspiring to provide an effective, seamless and integrated service to patients.
- Be a competent user of a variety of technical equipment (computerised and mechanical)
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To attain competencies : In Visual Acuity, eye pressure measurement, instillation of eye drops under the supervision and guidance of the qualified staff nurse, senior technician/HCA , technical skills of OCT, auto-refraction and visual fields having followed the Trusts required protocol.
- To maintain and update relevant knowledge and skills, maintain a professional portfolio and participate in further training as appropriate, in order to enhance quality of care for patients and carers
- To undertake clinical supervision in line with Trust Policy, to further develop competence and clinical practice.
Communicate clearly and appropriately with patients, their relatives/friends, colleagues and all other members of the multidisciplinary team, including responding to queries, answering the phone, taking messages, and passing on written and verbal information to patients
