We have an exciting opportunity for the Head of Optometry within the Ophthalmology Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and flexible Optometrist with leadership skills to join the Ophthalmology department at a time of change and development. This is a part time post, working 3-4 days a week. Main duties of the job

  • To function as a professional role model and clinical leader for the Optometry team, demonstrating both clinical and managerial competence
  • To be responsible for the strategic development and progression of the Optometry team in line with the Trust AHP Strategy and other key national agendas for both Optometrists and AHPs (preceptorship, career development, placement expansion, advanced clinical practice, diversity and inclusion and workforce development).
  • Establish effective communication across the department, Trust and with other stakeholders.
  • Develop a broad range of relationships with both internal and external colleagues including referrers, service users, parents and carers.
  • To support the design, implementation and evaluation of developments within the services with due regard to feasible opportunities for collaborative working across clinical support services
  • To develop and implement agreed annual objectives for the service in line with the Divisional business plan and corporate business planning process, ensuring ongoing compliance with nationally and locally determined standards and accreditation processes
  • To lead on development and delivery of the service’s strategy for teaching & training, providing coaching and teaching at an expert level inside and outside the Trust whilst also ensuring all staff are adequately equipped to undertake teaching duties, as appropriate
