Applications are now invited for individuals to join the Scottish Ambulance Service as a Qualified Ambulance Paramedic or applications from existing Qualified Ambulance Paramedics working for the Scottish Ambulance Service looking for a change of scenery within Argyll.

Whilst working for the Ambulance Service you will be required to follow shift patterns including unsocial hours and on-call working, or from home at some locations, therefore candidates are required to secure accommodation within a reasonable agreed distance from allocated station before commencing the employment, if you are interested but don’t have accommodation as yet reach out to the informal contact who may be able to assist.  During your training, and thereafter, there may be a requirement to work at other stations or locations within the Region.  It means there are times when you will need to be flexible and work a changing shift pattern.

The Area

Argyll is a beautiful part of Scotland and encompasses many of the features traditionally associated with Scotland and it’s geography.  Argyll, and it’s Isles, is a glorious coastal region of glittering sea lochs, islands, hills, forests and glens just waiting to be explored. It’s divided into nine areas, each with a distinct character and offering a unique experience.  From surfing to kayaking, quad-biking to mountain biking, to get off the beaten track and find your own adventure.

Go island hopping, walk in the wilderness, breathe pure air, watch magnificent sunsets and see starry skies that will take your breath away.  You’ll also discover incredible wildlife, a rich Highland history and fabulous local food.

And, all of this is just a hop and a skip from Glasgow.

The Role Ambulance Paramedics provide immediate care right across Scotland, often to people in their most vulnerable state and in very difficult and challenging environments. As a result, you will be able to show compassion and empathy and be able to deal with the difficult situations that we must respond to. Most importantly, you need to be able to keep calm under pressure, make good decisions and take control.

Essential: The successful applicant for this post must be a Qualified Ambulance Paramedic and proof of qualification would be required, we also require the candidates to have a valid Emergency Response Driving qualification with C1 Entitlement.

The Person This is a hugely varied role, each day and each patient is different. As a result, you will need to have excellent interpersonal skills as well as an ability to communicate effectively with a range of different and often difficult circumstances. You will need to demonstrate flexibility and the ability to make effective and safe decisions.

Paramedic vacancies are offered on a 24-hour shift basis and are referred to as “relief”. Relief is the working pattern that new Paramedics work and means that you will be given your shift pattern several weeks in advance, but it won’t always be the same shift pattern. It also means there are times when you will need to be flexible and work a changing shift pattern, sometimes in different locations.

All candidates will be required to satisfy the following minimum entry requirements:

•    Full UK driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points.

•    Candidates will be required to have a C1 Driving category on their current driving licence.

The starting salary for Paramedics Band 6 NHS Scotland Pay Banding.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Hiring Manager.
