Job overview

The Chronic Pain Management Service at University Hospitals Plymouth, Derriford Hospital, is a stand-alone service line within the Surgical Care Group. It is an Adult Highly Specialist Pain Management (tertiary) service (where spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pumps are commissioned by NHS England). It is a regional tertiary referral centre taking referrals from primary care, secondary care specialities, as well as other pain medicine consultants within the region.

We are seeking to appoint a further substantive GP with Specialist Interest to their team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Undertake outpatient clinics with consultant supervision.  Number of sessions to be agreed with successful applicant.
  • Support the delivery of a good quality pain service meeting local and national targets
  • Show a determination to meet or exceed the standards of the Patients’ Charter
  • Assist in our determination to be a successful provider of a range of appropriate services to the local community.

There will also be opportunities to

  • Contribute to the departmental teaching of the undergraduate medical students and GP Trainees rotating through.
  • Form closer working between the Pain Clinic and Primary Care to improve patient care
  • Develop a specialist interest within the team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced General Practitioner to join our Pain Management team.  The successful candidate will undertake outpatient clinics under consultant supervision.

There will be some allocated time in the job plan for administration, service development and attendance at MDT.

The successful candidate will support the teaching of our undergraduate medical students and GP Trainee's that rotate through the service.

There is allocated time in the job plan for development - we hold monthly Clinical Management Education mornings where clinicians are invited to get together to further their education and learning. These are organised and run by the Pain Management clinicians.
