The Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead is looking to appoint a "Fellow in Head and Neck Oncology Surgery". This post would be suitable for a senior maxillofacial trainee wishing to gain further experience in Head and Neck Oncology prior to a Consultant appointment.
It is envisaged that the successful applicant will be post CCST.
The QVH is a well recognised regional maxillofacial unit, operating on a "hub & spoke" basis to provide services for a significant proportion of the South East.
There are 8 Consultants with a Head and Neck Oncology interest and 7 all day theatre lists per week to accommodate these cases and there is are Oncology MDT clinics are carried out at QVH and also at Medway, Eastbourne and Brighton. This includes the Ear, Nose and Throat oncology consultants that are part of the hub and spoke model also and there are cases generated from the spoke clinics coming to QVH for their surgery as well as the cases form QVH.
There is a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory on site at QVH and in addition we have "in-house" 3D planning available to us.
The fellow will be expected to attend theatre, Oncology MDT’s and the Oncology Consultants’ clinics for both Urgent Cancer referrals as well as the surveillance patients.
We will provide training and experience in all aspects of surgery from initial diagnosis and treatment planning through detailed pre-op planning and surgical technique to post-operative care and follow up.
If the successful candidate has sufficient experience they will be expected to contribute to teaching programme for the junior staff and participate in the Audit and M&M meetings.
In addition the fellow is able to participate in the department on-call rota which is a 1 in 6 evening and 1 in 9 weekend and be involved in the trauma element of the OMFS service if they wish.
