This position will be based at the Borders General Hospital (Melrose) but there will be a requirement to work flexibly across the Scottish Borders region serving acute and primary health care facilities.

NHS Borders Estates Department has a vacancy for a suitably qualified and experienced Estates Officer. The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of operational maintenance and management of mechanical and electrical engineering services within NHS Borders property portfolio. The post holder will support the Estates Manager in leading a multi-disciplinary team of directly employed labour and term/specialist contractors ensuring they are utilised effectively and efficiently.

Ensuring a safe, effective and efficient service. Experienced in managing during periods of change, be able to work with a high degree of autonomy and have the ability to prioritise competing demands.

Excellent interpersonal skills teamed with good organisational skills, assertiveness and diplomacy; with the ability to use logic to solve problems rationally and effectively and be able to communicate clearly and articulately across all levels.

The person must be willing to undergo training, attend training courses etc when required.

There is a requirement to provide emergency on-call estates services and the occasional requirement to work outwith normal hours. (E.g. emergency situation)

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Hiring Manager.
