An exciting opportunity has become available and we are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic, and motivated Duty Practitioner to join our team, based at the 136 Suite at Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridge.

The ideal candidate will have a commitment to teamwork, a sense of accountability, plus an ability to work under pressure.

The post holder will be part of a team working 24/7 to provide a high quality and dedicated specialist service to those in mental health crisis, who have been detained by the police under Section 136 Mental Health Act.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring appropriate access and use of the s136 facility is in place. To act in an educational and advisory capacity in relation to legislation and the running of the 136 suite.

The post holder will have continuing 24 hour responsibility for the nursing care and management of the clinical area. This will include effective team leadership, acting as an experienced clinician in acute and rehabilitation services.

The post holder will ensure that an effective therapeutic environment exists for patients and that students are provided with excellent learning opportunities.

You will provide the leadership skills required to motivate and develop staff to their maximum potential in order to attain the highest standards in the delivery of care to patients. It is expected that the post holder will be predominately ward based and work with the Modern Matron in line with national guidelines and recommendations.

  • To co-ordinate the response to medical, psychiatric  emergencies on the hospital site.
  • To deploy staff in urgent/emergency situations to achieve safe staffing levels within available resources.
  • To ensure the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007 and other statutory regulations are observed and implemented.
  • To ensure that all staff comply with Trust policies and procedures.To ensure that Risk Management and Health & Safety requirements are implemented.
  • To be conversant with the Major Incident and Fire Evacuation Procedures.

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs.
