Job overview

RCHT imaging is looking for motivated and dynamic Radiographers wishing to develop their skills and gain experience in Computed Tomography (CT). It is essential to have good communication skills and a highly developed sense of patient care to join our friendly and progressive team.

The CT department currently has 5 CT scanners across Royal Cornwall Hospital, Bodmin CDC and West Cornwall Hospital where this role will be based.

The Diagnostic Imaging department has recently achieved accreditation through the Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme (ISAS) and has been inspected and rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Outstanding’.

This successful applicants will be required to work at  West Cornwall Hospital with initial training and some rotation through the Treliske, Truro CT department.

The department currently takes student radiographers from Exeter and Plymouth Universities and is a training site for Radiologists. We have Assistant Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners including Reporting Radiographers, and Consultant Radiographers in post and are committed to developing the knowledge and skills of our workforce.

Main duties of the job

To work with the Team Leaders and Advanced / Specialist Practitioner Radiographers to ensure the efficient and cost-effective delivery of the service.

To work as part of a team providing a 7 day and out of hours CT service which may include working shifts in Trauma, Acute and General (TAG) X-ray.

To work with the Team Leader and Advanced / Specialist Practitioner Radiographers to continually improve the radiography service.

Justify radiology referrals (within scope of practice) using referral criteria which falls within the Royal College of Radiologists Guidelines and the Clinical Imaging Protocol Manual.

To comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation (IRR 17), Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) regulation (IR(ME)R 17), the Trust Radiation Safety Policy and MHRA Safety Guidelines for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Equipment in Clinical Use and the MRI Departments.  Liaise closely with Consultant Radiologists and colleagues within clinical multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive optimum care.
