The post offered is a consultant position in old age psychiatry in Pearl Ward based at Highgate East Mental Health Centre.

Pearl Ward is a 15 bedded ward primarily for older adults with functional mental illnesses, such as psychosis, mania and depression. 1 of the 10 PAs is for once weekly ECT. The ECT service has grown recently so it would be useful to have an additional consultant involved in this. The responsibility includes supporting the ECT team with administering ECT to patients throughout the unit. There will be opportunity to develop your ECT skills with the team.

This post has arisen because of the previous post-holder going on maternity leave.  The post is available now.

The role of the Consultant is to be the clinical lead of the team and to ensure high, quality, patient-centered, effective, safe and efficient care is delivered by the team.

Main duties of the job

• Provide clinical leadership and act as the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act. •    Oversee the delivery of ECT sessions in line with best practice and accreditation standards. •    Supervise and mentor junior doctors, contributing to their growth and development. •    Engage actively in teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
