Job overview

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are delighted to seek the appointment of a  Consultant in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery to support our centralised service providing high quality, modern vascular care for the people of Preston, Lancaster, Blackpool, Wigan and surrounding areas.

The model of care is based on a “hub and spoke” arrangement as recommended by the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland. All in-patient, arterial and emergency surgical procedures are treated in the Vascular Intervention Centre (Royal Preston Hospital), with day-case lists and out-patient clinics continuing in our three “non centre” NHS trusts (Wigan, Blackpool and Morecambe Bay).

The network has a total of eleven Vascular Consultants, working across the four trusts, participating in a “Vascular Surgeon of the Week” and a separate vascular on call and weekend rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:-

  • Specifically adopt, in conjunction with colleagues, an active role in planning, development and delivery of the vascular service during the recovery.
  • Work closely with the Trust’s Interventional Vascular Radiologists to maintain and further develop the endovascular service for elective and emergency patients.
  • Participate in the weekly network MDT meetings with colleagues from all disciplines involved in the care of vascular patients.
  • Participate in the emergency vascular on-call and Vascular Surgeon of the week rota.
  • Provide a vascular service in the non-intervention centre hospital trusts (Focus on the Morecambe Bay area).
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students.
  • The post holder will be expected to play a full part in the departmental audit and clinical governance programmes.  The post-holders will be required to undergo an annual appraisal and revalidation as required by the General Medical Council.

The successful candidate will be expected to reside in a location within 30 minutes travelling time to working in Chorley and Preston.
