Community Equipment Technicians play an important role in the timely discharge of patients from secondary care and the re-enablement of patients in the community who have long-term conditions. The post holder will be required to prioritise their workload according to delivery schedules, load, transport, deliver and set up equipment. Liaise and communicate effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Community Technician. The post holder will be responsible for the safe installation of healthcare equipment and be able to demonstrate an effective, efficient delivery, collection and equipment repair service for community equipment, for the residents of Knowsley. The post will also require service to provide both planned and emergency deliveries and collections of community equipment. To ensure all aspects of fleet vehicles are appropriately maintained, they will also be required to undertake key holder responsibilities and work as part of a 5 day shift over a 7 day rota system providing debriefs after completion of delivery/collection schedules. The post holder will be required to undertake work in an efficient, effective and economic manner, both as an individual or as part of a team, to provide continuously improving service to our service users.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Prioritise workload to meet delivery schedules and facilitate hospital discharge for patients/service users
- Undertake a risk assessment of the patient’s/service users environment for the safe delivery and installation of equipment
- To deliver, assemble and collect equipment from people’s home addresses and complete the delivery records
- To set up and demonstrate the safe use of manual and electrical equipment to patients, service users and carers
- Communicate effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Support and deal sensitively with recently bereaved families and carers when collecting equipment
- Report any incidents or concerns to equipment co-ordinator or community equipment Manager
- Adhere to delivery schedules identified within the Knowsley terminal care pathway
- Collections - Collect used/contaminated equipment in a safe manner in compliance with infection control requirements
- Stores – undertake general warehouse and storekeeping duties Advise the co-ordinator of minimum stock levels
- Cleaning of equipment - Undertake cleaning of equipment as identified in infection control and local policies
- Inspect all returned equipment for damage and carry out routine maintenance repairs as necessary. Report major defects to the co-ordinator
- To take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and others in the working environment and comply with instructions on safe moving and handling practices
- To attend health and safety and equipment awareness training to maintain up to date skills and knowledge
- Report any adverse incidents using Radar reports.
