Job overview

The Gait and FES Services team are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Technologist (Part-time, 18.5 hours/week) to join our multi-disciplinary team in assessing adults and children with walking difficulties, and in treating neurological patients with Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES).  The post has recently been re-banded to support individuals with a desire to progress through the clinical scientist training pathway, to become a qualified clinical scientist, and there is an expectation that the post-holder will complete this at an appropriate stage.

The Gait and Movement Laboratory offers a regional assessment service to children and adults who have walking difficulties. Patients can vary from around 2 years of age to 80+ years of age, with a range of presentations including patients with complex neurological disorders. We evaluate gait using computerised biomechanical systems and recommend knowledge-based treatment plans. We also offer a functional electrical stimulation (FES) service to people who suffer from ‘drop foot’.

Main duties of the job

The post holder’s role will include the following:

  • Equipment calibration and operation within the Gait Lab
  • Routine data collection and processing
  • Assisting lead clinician with patient assessment which will include direct patient contact and may include patient handling

Key skills required for the role:

  • Must be eligible to work in the UK (note the post is for 18.5 hours only)
  • Must be eligible for registration onto the clinical scientist training scheme on one of the available pathways
  • Demonstrable experience with motion analysis software
  • Competent IT skills are essential for this role. We use Microsoft office packages as well as the motion analysis software (including Visual 3D), but specific training on these can be given.
  • Time management skills and ability to arrange and prioritise own workload

Closing Date: 13 January 2025 Interview Date:  28 January 2025
