Job overview

Applications are invited for the posts of Clinical Research Fellow (Core) in Donor Retrieval Transplant ‘Fellowship in Transplant Surgery and Organ Retrieval’ at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We have two posts available for 12 months each: •    Post 1: To commence from 06 August 2025 •    Post 2: To commence from 29 September 2025

This one-year fellowship offers the successful applicant an opportunity to experience all aspects of organ retrieval and transplantation based in the Transplant Unit, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH).

Main duties of the job

An essential requirement of the post-holder is to provide assistant surgical cover for the CUH Multi-Visceral Organ Retrieval Service. The CUH Transplant Unit is one of the seven newly-recognised retrieval centres, and the successful candidate will be integral to a dedicated retrieval team that performs approximately 150 retrievals each year, with a well-established donation after circulatory death transplant programme.

In order to be considered, applicants must be at Core Training level and have gained their full MRCS.

Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application is required.

This post may be suitable for those wishing to undertake an “F3” role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The CUH Transplant Unit is an internationally-renowned academic centre and the post offers an excellent opportunity for the post-holder to study towards a higher degree: the post can be extended, for example, to two years to enable enrolment for a Doctor of Medicine degree.

We anticipate that the clinical experience provided by the post, allied to the academic training offered, will enable the successful applicant to be highly competitive in applying for Speciality Training.

Please refer to the Job description and Person specification attached for further details on the main responsibilities and duties for this post.
