An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse to work in the nutrition team.   Applicants must have an interest in both enteral and parenteral nutrition and have at least 1-2 years post registration experience in a medical or surgical setting.  An interest in training professional’s patents and carers in assessment and care of artificial feeding tubes is essential.  Secondment into the position may be possible.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide nursing expertise and knowledge to support in the daily co-ordination of the Artificial Nutrition Support Team (ANST) and be responsible for the delivery of specialist nursing skills within complex patient pathways. The Nutrition Support Nurse will promote best practice, identify and provide training to other Health care Professionals, and carers.  The Nutrition Support Nurse will also maintain and assisted in the development of the nutrition service for patients requiring both artificial Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition. Work closely with the CNS of the Nutrition Service and deputies in their absence. To support in the management of a caseload of patients who require any method of Artificial Feeding.

To identify the educational needs of staff then plan and provide a continuing educational programme on artificial support for staff involved in care of patients throughout the Trust, in the process disseminating best practice

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide advice and support to community Health care professionals, patients and carers on all aspects of artificial nutrition.

To assist in the management of patient care requiring Nutritional nurse’s specialist input.  To assist in the management of the nursing care provided for patients requiring Artificial Feeding.

Training and education
