Job overview

The Neurology Team has a new exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Epilepsy. This role will work alongside the existing Lead Epilepsy Nurse Specialist,  supporting in delivering specialised care to patients diagnosed with epilepsy or undergoing investigations to confirm diagnosis.

Responsibilities include managing a caseload of patients, offering clinical guidance and assistance, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to devise comprehensive care plans. Additionally, serving as an educational resource for both patients and colleagues, the position entails contributing to the advancement of clinical practice, facilitating education and training, conducting audits, and engaging in research activities.

Trainee Role: We are willing to consider registered nurse candidates at a Band 6 level, who are interested in training and pursuing a career as a Specialist Nurse within Epilepsy.

Further training will be provided to the successful trainee to meet the competencies of a Band 7 Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist as detailed in the job description/person specification.

Main duties of the job

  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills of Epilepsy through clinical practice
  • Lead on the development and implementation of pathways of care for patients and ensure they are monitored and evaluated regularly
  • Work with the Epilepsy specialist team to educate patients and their families/carers about their conditions and help patients make informed decisions about their care
  • Act as an advocate for the service users through information giving and support to obtain informed consent prior to undergoing treatment
