Job overview

To provide clinical experience in Child Health. Although it is not a formal training post, the successful candidate will be working alongside trainees in nationally recognised training positions, and receive the same support, supervision and access to teaching as them. Supervision will be from one of the Paediatric Consultants.

To give training in strategic planning and organisation of undergraduate education, including named responsibility for negotiated specific components

To further develop theoretical understanding of clinical education

To participate in a community of educational practice, including design and delivery of innovative teaching, peer observation, evaluation and research

To provide high quality clinical teaching within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

To further develop and improve teaching of undergraduate medical students within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

If the successful appointee has over four years post qualification experience, they will be appointed on specialty doctor 2021 terms and conditions

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical experience in Paediatric emergency care.

To assist in the development, co-ordination, and delivery of undergraduate teaching at North Tyneside, Wansbeck General Hospitals and at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington.

The Teaching Fellow will participate in delivering and monitoring courses and clinical teaching across year 3, 4 and 5 of the Newcastle university undergraduate medical curricula, primarily with a paediatric focus but with opportunity to teach on other aspects of the undergraduate curriculum.

To develop the teaching and educational skills of the Teaching Fellow, the post holder will be expected to register for the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, run by Newcastle University, with Home Fees funded by the Trust. Alternatively, a similar qualification in education may be undertaken, supported by the Trust up to the equivalent Home Fee Rate.

To carry out a small-scale educational project, for example an audit or the development of new innovative teaching material.
