Job overview

Are you looking for an opportunity where you can have a real impact on patients, their loved ones and your colleagues?

Our chaplaincy team is seeking a Hospital Chaplain to join them in Norfolk and Suffolk, to help grow and shape the pastoral, spiritual and religious service we provide.

You’ll be joining a small, collaborative team and will be supported with clergy supervision by Cambridge and Peterborough NHS Trust.

This is a part-time opportunity for 9.4 hours a week. You’ll be based largely in Bury St. Edmunds, potentially covering the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk so must be able to travel between different locations.

It is integral that you are open minded and prepared to work with patients, their relatives and friends, and staff and students; whatever their cultural and faith tradition, for the purpose of pastoral, spiritual and religious care.

Although there will be a lot of independent working, there will also be an expectation to support with the development of volunteers into the chaplaincy team; something we are very passionate about.

If you’re suitably qualified and seeking an opportunity to work alongside inspiring, compassionate individuals – we’d love to hear from you!

There may be further hours available in the coming weeks/months across our organisation, so we would welcome applications from all and we can discuss further at interview.

Main duties of the job

As chaplain, you will:

  • Help develop, maintain and provide a comprehensive Spiritual & Pastoral Care service in Norfolk and Suffolk. You will help the Trust implement its Spirituality Strategy and related policies and develop as an efficient, effective and healthy organisation.
  • You will help develop and promote a multi-disciplinary approach to care which recognises the importance of spirituality in mental health care in accordance with the Trust’s Strategy on Spirituality and its commitment to person centred care.
  • You will develop and maintain a resource for Faith Group leaders and workers in providing for the care of their faith group members who are Trust service users, carers or staff.
  • You may have the opportunity to supervise and train Spiritual and Pastoral Care team volunteers and student / ministerial placements as required.
  • You will help manage appropriate resources for the spiritual, religious and pastoral care of service users, carers and staff, including the provision of sacred spaces for worship and personal reflection.
