Job summary

A Band 8a Clinical Specialist Neurophysiotherapy post has been created to support the stroke service on Heartlands Hospital site. The post will be supporting the front door stroke service and working closely with ACP and medical colleagues, alongside other AHP colleagues in outpatients and community services as part of our dynamic system wide approach.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative physiotherapist with extensive clinical experience in Stroke rehabilitation at an advanced level. This post is based at our Heartlands site however, as the Trust is a multi-site organisation you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites and may need to change your normal place of work, either temporarily or on a permanent basis as a result of development or reorganisation of Trust services.

Applicants will be required to participate in the departmental respiratory overnight on-call system, extended hours and 7 day working rota within the stroke service.

Main duties of the job

*To carry a clinical caseload and work at an advanced level of clinical practice for stroke in patients particularly at the front door, providing a Clinical Specialist role for both Stroke and medical patients with complex needs. This includes optimising multi professional care and improving transfers of care and discharge through direct clinical care and problem resolution.

*To provide robust clinical leadership to the in patient stroke therapy team delivering care for these patients. This is achieved through effective communication, influencing, motivating and inspiring others to deliver high quality care. This includes responding to national initiatives and advising on appropriate clinical delivery and strategy relating to own professions practice.

*To work with senior colleagues in nursing and medicine across a range of specialties to facilitate the delivery of appropriate care planning. This includes acting as the clinical interface with the Clinical Service Leads in the Trust; leading Therapy Services co-ordination of complex cases and clinical pathway management in order that patients are able to achieve their desired outcomes, and to deliver good practice.

*To participate in aspects relating to neurology and stroke therapy services and provides expert clinical advice and guidance on a range of matters relating to neurology pathway delivery. This includes service development and improvement initiatives and addressing clinical challenges.
