You will be working alongside the Clinical Psychologist on one of two acute inpatient units and supported to engage in psychological assessments, develop formulations, and provide individual and group interventions to adults of working age. You will also have the opportunity to support the psychologist with aspects of service evaluation, research and audit projects.

Within the Wiltshire acute care psychology service we have a supportive team who meet on a regular basis.  We are  part of a wider Wiltshire Psychological Therapies Service (WPTS),   a friendly  and team who meet on a monthly basis.

Main duties of the job

Under close supervision you will be supported to develop psychological formulations and provide therapeutic interventions to people experiencing mental health crises. You will be part of a broader multidisciplinary team contributing to recovery oriented care plans. You will also be facilitating therapeutic groups and 1:1 interventions. You will receive weekly supervision and training in relevant psychological approaches. Under the direction and guidance of the inpatient psychologist you will communicate psychological approaches, develop interventions, tools and resources for the staff team, service users, their families and carers. Collect and collate information to support the clinical psychologist in service audit and evaluation projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Supervised to develop evidence based psychological formulations which inform interventions.
  • Supervised implementation of appropriate psychometric and functional assessments.
  • Delivery of low intensity psychological interventions (group and 1:1).
  • Liaison with the qualified psychologist.
  • Liaison with the broader multidisciplinary team.
  • Promoting a therapeutic environment within the ward.
  • Collecting information and conducting literature searches to assist with service evaluation/ audit and research projects.
