Band 6 Secondment Transfusion Practitioner role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the small Transfusion Practitioner team. The transfusion practitioners ensure the safety of patients undergoing blood transfusions across the Trust. This 5 month secondment is to help with the roll out of BloodTrack.

BloodTrack is an electronic Blood Tracking system, which will replace the current paper based system being used. BloodTrack is designed to enhance transfusion safety and enable continuity of care throughout the Trust.

The main duties of this role is to assist with the roll out of BloodTrack. You will do this by supplying the BloodTrack training and competency assessments to clinical staff across the Trust on their clinical areas or in a class room setting.

You will be assisting in training staff on how to take a pre-transfusion sample correctly, collect blood components and products from blood bank storage and how to organise, request and administer blood transfusion to patients following local and national guidelines.

You will assist on investigating any incidents that may arise and be an active member of the weekly blood track implementation project group meeting.
