Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic registered practitioner to join the team to undertake training to become a fully qualified and accredited Non-Medical Endoscopist within the nurse led Endoscopy service at Barnsley Hospital.

We are looking for a highly driven and dynamic person with an interest in all aspects of Endoscopy and Gastroenterology and a passion for delivering high quality, evidence-based care to patients. The successful candidate must be hard working, organised and computer literate with the ability to navigate multiple complex IT systems. They will need to have extensive knowledge and experience gained from working in Endoscopy.

Essentially, the post holder will have training to be able to:

Perform diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy unsupervised

Manage removal and/or treatment of polyps through the endoscope

Perform diagnostic upper GI endoscopy unsupervised.

Manage cancerous growths and organise/book ongoing scans, tests and appointments.

To be flexible and pick up additional endoscopy lists in the absence of other Endoscopists.

Take part in thorough consultations including the consenting process; informing patients of benefits, risks, possible additional or alternative procedures as appropriate.

Deliver highly sensitive and complex information to patients and their carers/relatives.

Main duties of the job

Annex 21 to be offered for trainees.

Following training they will eventually be expected to provide clinical expertise and be a professional resource for patients, their carers and other health professionals for the delivery of the highest quality, clinically effective gastrointestinal care and treatments in line with JAG, BSG and NICE standards and guidance.

The successful candidate must aim towards autonomously managing a caseload of patients, providing highly advanced care and working independently within the multi-disciplinary team. They will also be actively involved in developing endoscopic practice to enable the department to achieve local and national objectives and contribute to the development of endoscopy services within the Trust.

We would expect the applicants to provide evidence of ongoing continuous professional development, maintaining professional registration and improving professional knowledge, skills and competence. They must have good communication and interpersonal skills with effective report writing skills and work well as part of the MDT and endoscopy team.
