Job overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Cardiac Physiologist Specialised in Pacing and Cathlab to join our friendly and dynamic team, providing high standards of care and support to patients in the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

You will play a key role in the continuous development of our vibrant and growing cardiology service. The Cardiology Service offers a comprehensive range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures including Daytime Primary PCI, Elective PCI (with tools like Shockwave, IVUS, IFR, FFR), Brady Pacemaker implantation and follow-up, Cardioversion, Exercise Treadmill Testing, Tilt Testing, and ambulatory monitoring (Holter monitors, BP monitors and Loop recorder monitors). Our Cardiac Centre has 2 cathlabs, one of which is brand new.

Additionally, the Luton site now benefits from a new Cardiac MRI service.

We hold a Bi-Weekly Pacing/Cathlab meeting in which interesting cases are presented and discussed with an open-minded attitude, facilitating learning and development of clinical skills. We also produce constructive monthly pacing quality audit reports, incentivizing continuous improvement.

We offer a 10% Recruitment and Retention Bonus for Pacing accredited Cardiac Physiologists (HRUK/IBHRE/EHRA).

Main duties of the job

  • To participate in the provision of the cardiac rhythm management including inpatient Pacemaker/ICD/CRT checks, pre and post-op Pacemaker/ICD/CRT programming, pre and post-MRI scan Pacemaker programming, outpatient pacemaker clinic and remote monitoring.
  • To assist during the full range of cardiac procedures undertaken within the CathLab, including daytime Primary PCI, elective PCI (with Shockwave/IVUS/FFR/IFR), pacemaker implants and loop recorder implants.
  • To perform Pacing Quality Audit Reports.
  • To maintain high standards of technical competency in the provision of all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non-invasive).
  • To effectively, promptly, and professionally respond to emergency situations maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
  • To assist in the day-to-day management of procedures/workload/organisation within the department.
  • To act as a role model for junior members of the team and to contribute to their development.
  • To participate in the bi-weekly pacing/cathlab meeting, open-mindedly sharing and discussing interesting findings/cases, promoting suggestions for service improvement and providing training/teaching sessions.
  • To assist in the development of protocols, guidelines, and policies within the department.
