Job overview

We are seeking an exceptional leader to assume the role of Director of Laboratory Services within the HFEA licenced Department of Reproductive Medicine at Saint Mary’s Hospital; the first fully-NHS funded IVF unit in the UK.

Based in the old Saint Mary’s Hospital building on Oxford Road, the department is UKAS accredited and provides the full range of infertility services to the North West of England and is home to The United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Service for Reproductive Science (UKNEQAS RS).

Main duties of the job

As the Director of Laboratory Services, you will be responsible for overseeing both the day to day running of the Clinical Embryology laboratory and the Andrology department, ensuring that the rigorous maintenance and implementation of professional, regulatory and safety standards are achieved at all times.   You will work in partnership with the Clinical Lead, Person Responsible to HFEA and the Directorate Manager to set and deliver strategic change for the department and will oversee the laboratory governance, finance and HR.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record in the leadership of a high-performing HFEA-compliant laboratory and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities, encouraging a collaborative, motivated, and highly efficient team.  You will be a forward thinker, adept at integrating changes to enhance laboratory operations and clinical outcomes and possess exceptional communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels to ensure the seamless functioning and continuing growth of the service.

The post holder will be required to have an excellent knowledge of the HFEA code of practice and will be involved in preparation for regulatory inspections and accreditations.  The laboratory director will have overall responsibility for cryo-contracting of gametes and embryos The post holder will also require excellent knowledge of relevant ISO standards.
